02 — Principles

The Four Editorial Principles

01

Dual-Editor Review

Every article submitted for publication at Ondavi Quarterly is reviewed by at least one second editor before it is cleared for the archive. The second editor assesses the article against the publication's documented accuracy standards and checks that all factual claims are consistent with published exercise science where applicable.

02

Source Citation

Sources are cited within the body of articles where specific claims are made regarding exercise science, movement research, or documented progression frameworks. Citations are drawn from peer-reviewed publications, professional exercise science literature, and publicly documented guidance from established movement bodies. No source is cited that has not been independently verified by the editorial team.

03

Public Corrections

Corrections to published articles are noted publicly within the article itself, with a dated correction notice appended to the relevant passage. The correction notice includes the original text, the corrected text, and the date on which the correction was made. Corrections are not retrospectively concealed and are not removed from the archive.

04

Commercial Disclosure

Writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter, their framing of a topic, or their recommendation of a particular product, service, or approach. Disclosure statements appear at the foot of articles where applicable. No article is accepted for publication in which a commercial relationship has not been declared where one exists.

03 — Process

From Pitch to Publication

01

Subject Selection

Writers propose article subjects to the editorial team. Proposals are assessed for relevance to the publication's focus on beginner fitness and active lifestyle, for compatibility with the publication's sourcing standards, and for independence from undisclosed commercial interests. Proposals that do not meet these criteria are not accepted for development.

02

Research and Drafting

Writers conduct research drawing on published exercise science, publicly available movement guidance, and documented practitioner frameworks. All claims intended for publication are identified during the drafting stage and marked for source verification. The draft is submitted to the editorial team with source notes attached.

03

Primary Editorial Review

The primary editor reviews the draft for accuracy, register, structural clarity, and compliance with the publication's stop-word and content guidelines. Claims are checked against the cited sources. Where a claim cannot be verified against a cited source, it is either removed, qualified, or returned to the writer for revision with a specific query attached.

04

Second Editorial Review

A second editor reviews the article independently of the primary editor's notes, with attention to any remaining accuracy concerns and to the overall editorial consistency of the piece. The second review is not a copy-editing pass — it is a substantive accuracy review. Both editors must clear the article before it proceeds to publication.

05

Publication and Archiving

The article is published to the archive with a publication date, author credit, and disclosure statement where applicable. The source notes are retained internally. The article enters the corrections review cycle, in which any reader-reported inaccuracies are assessed by the editorial team within 48 hours of receipt and corrected publicly where warranted.

04 — Sourcing

Source Verification Standards

Ondavi Quarterly draws on three categories of source in its editorial work: peer-reviewed publications in exercise science and movement research, publicly documented guidance from established movement and fitness bodies, and primary accounts from qualified wellness and fitness professionals writing in their personal editorial capacity.

Sources in the first category are identified by their publication in peer-reviewed journals with documented editorial review processes. Sources in the second category are assessed for the institutional standing of the originating body and for the transparency of their own sourcing methodology. Sources in the third category are assessed for the writer's documented qualifications and for the presence of any undisclosed commercial relationship.

No source is used that cannot be independently located and verified by a reader. Where a source is behind a paywall or access restriction, the publication, author, and date are cited fully so that a reader with institutional access may verify the source independently. Where a source has been updated or retracted subsequent to the article's publication, a correction notice is appended.
